Installing Application Configuration Service for VMware Tanzu
This page will give an overview of the installation processs for Application Configuration Service for VMware Tanzu management components.
Before beginning the installation process, ensure that you have installed the following tools on your local machine:
- The Docker command-line interface (CLI) tool,
docker. For information about installing the
dockerCLI tool, see the Docker documentation.
To install Application Configuration Service for VMware Tanzu, follow the steps below.
Application Configuration Service for VMware Tanzu is provided as a compressed archive file containing a series of utility scripts, manifests, and required images.
To download the components:
Visit VMware Tanzu Network and log in.
Navigate to the [Application Configuration Service for VMware Tanzu](https://network.pivotal.io/products/application-configuration-service-for-vmware-tanzu product listing.
In the Releases list, select the version that you wish to install.
Download “Application Configuration Service for VMware Tanzu Installer”.
Extract the contents of the archive file:
$ tar zxf application-configuration-service-v1.0.0-beta.1.tgz
The extracted directory contains the following directory layout:
$ ls application-configuration-service-v1.0.0-beta.1 VERSION helm images scripts
Next, relocate the Application Configuration Service for VMware Tanzu images to your private image registry. The images must be loaded into the local Docker daemon and pushed into the registry.
To relocate the images:
dockerCLI tool to authenticate to your image registry.
Run the image relocation script, located in the
$ ./scripts/relocate-images.sh <REGISTRY_URL>
In this example command, replace the
<REGISTRY_URL> placeholder with the URL for your image registry. For example, if the registry name is “application-config-service”:
$ ./scripts/relocate-images.sh myregistry.example.com/application-config-service
The script will load the Application Configuration Service for VMware Tanzu image and push it into the image registry.
You are now ready to install Application Configuration Service for VMware Tanzu. To install, you can execute the installation script, located in the
The installation script will need to know the URL of the image registry and a username for accessing the image registry. These are specified in a file named acs-install-values.yaml in the helm/application-configuration-service directory. Edit the file to include this information. For example, the resulting file will look something like this:
imageCredentials: registry: myregistry.example.com/application-config-service username: email@example.com
Run the script, as shown in the following example:
By default, the Application Configuration Service for VMware Tanzu reconciler will be deployed in the
application-configuration-service namespace. If you want to install it in a different namespace, specify the installation namespace as an argument to the installation script. For example:
$ ./scripts/install-application-configuration-service.sh some-other-namespace
The script will prompt you for the password to use for accessing the image registry. This is the password that goes with the username given in the acs-install-values.yaml file.
After running the script, you should see a new deployment named
application-configuration-service in either the default or your chosen namespace.
