Pivotal Cloud Foundry v1.9

Migrating from Diego Windows

This topic describes how to migrate applications and Windows cells from Diego Windows to Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) Runtime for Windows.

Requirements

Consult the following requirements before performing the migration:

  • Customers who are using Diego Windows on PCF 1.6.x, 1.7.x, and 1.8.x must upgrade to PCF 1.9.x before performing the migration.
  • You must be using Diego Windows on PCF 1.9.x to perform the migration to PCF Runtime for Windows.
  • You must have installed PCF Runtime for Windows before performing the migration. See the Deploying PCF Runtime for Windows topic for more information.
  • You must have enough cells deployed with PCF Runtime for Windows to house your apps.

Trigger Evacuation

You must trigger an evacuation to ensure your users are not affected by application downtime. Execute the following PowerShell script from your Windows cell:

Set-Service RepService -startuptype "Disabled"

Invoke-WebRequest -Uri -UseBasicParsing http://localhost:1800/evacuate -Method Post

while ($true) {
    try {
        Get-WebRequest "http://localhost:1800/ping"
    } catch {
        [system.exception]
        break;
    }
}

As your instances evacuate, they will land on the new cells deployed by PCF Runtime for Windows.

After all instances evacuate, you can shut down your Windows cell.
